Pocket Casts, one of the best third-party podcast apps on iOS, is now available for free.

It won’t cost you anything to download the app anymore, and you’ll get to enjoy some of its best features — like cross-platform syncing and the dark theme — for absolutely nothing.

An optional Pocket Casts Plus subscription, priced at just $0.99 a month, gets you even more.

We’ve been writing about Pocket Casts for years here on Cult of Mac. Its catalog of more than 700,000 podcasts and its ability to sync your library between devices makes it a terrific app.

And now it’s even better because you don’t have to pay for it.

Download Pocket Casts for free

Pocket Casts (previously $3.99) is now free to download on mobile platforms. And you get many of its best features included as standard, including:

  • Discovery section
  • Audio effects
  • Organizational tools and filters
  • Dark themes and icons
  • Multiple playback options
  • Cross-platform sync

And that’s not all. Pocket Casts just introduced the ability to play local audio and video files, like audiobooks — and that’s free, too. Additional free features will be added later on.

Pocket Casts Plus gets you more

If you need more from Pocket Casts, there’s the Pocket Casts Plus subscription. It costs just $0.99 a month or $10 a year, and it gets you the following:

  • Desktop apps for macOS, Windows, and the web
  • Cloud storage for creators
  • Exclusive app icons and themes

If you’re already a Pocket Casts user, you will not experience any changes. All the app’s existing features, plus the new functionality, will be available in Pocket Casts’ latest update.

What’s more, those who previously purchased Pocket Casts on desktop will get three years of Pocket Casts Plus for free.
