Apple will make a $10 donation to the National Park Foundation for every Apple Pay purchase in the Apple Store.

The charitable donation program runs through this week, concluding on Sunday, August 25. It covers purchases made via both Apple’s online and physical retail stores.

In an email to customers, Apple wrote that it aims to “enhance everyone’s ability to enjoy the natural, cultural, and historic treasures within America’s national parks.”

The weeklong charitable partnership coincides with the National Park Service Anniversary and an entrance-fee-free day. On August 25, the National Park Service eliminates entry fees to the more than 85 million acres of national parks. There is at least one national park in every state.

To celebrate the day, Apple is also offering an Apple Watch Activity award inspired by Grand Canyon National Park’s 100th anniversary. Users hoping to collect the award must record a walk, run, hike or wheelchair workout of at least 3 miles (4.8 kilometers.)

Promoting national parks

This isn’t the first time that Apple helped promote the country’s national parks. In 2017, Apple offered a similar promotion. However, on that occasion it offered only $1 to the National Park Foundation for each payment made.

Apple’s most notable tribute to national parks came when it started using national park-inspired names for OS X. This became with Yosemite a few years back. After Apple began using the name, interest in the beloved American landmark reportedly skyrocketed.
