Tim Cook tweeted his condolences Monday after a deadly mass shooting at a festival in Northern California.

The tragic shooting took place Sunday at the Gilroy Garlic Festival, where a shooter killed three people, including a 6-year-old boy. At least 15 people were injured during the shooting before police killed the gunman.

“Deeply saddened by the news of the shooting at the Gilroy Garlic Festival, a beloved community tradition in Northern California,” Cook wrote on Twitter. “Wishing strength and recovery to our neighbors in Gilroy, the victims and their families. Much gratitude to the first responders.”

Cook’s comments on gun control

Cook talked about gun control last year during a commencement address at his alma mater, Duke University. During his speech, Cook praised the “fearless” Parkland, Florida, students who “refuse to be silent about the epidemic of gun violence, and have rallied millions to their cause.”

Apple also replaced the gun emoji with a water pistol. This move led the way for other tech companies to make the change as well.

While Cook typically uses his Twitter account for Apple business, he also tweets about personal issues. Earlier this year, Cook tweeted his sadness after former Auburn college sports broadcaster Rod Bramblett and his wife died in a car crash.
