Tim Cook has donated $25,000 to a family memorial fund for former Auburn college sports broadcaster Rod Bramblett and wife and fellow Auburn employee Paula.

The couple, who are survived by their two children, died in a car crash over the weekend. Their vehicle was hit by a teenaged driver at an intersection.

Both Rod and Paula graduated from Auburn University, Tim Cook’s alma mater. Rod Bramblett was the voice of Auburn football, having served as the lead announcer for football, men’s basketball and baseball. Paula Bramblett worked in Auburn’s Information Technology Department.

A GoFundMe account was set up for the family of the couple. It raised more than $200,000 in under 48 hours. Tim Cook donated $25,000 of this.

Tim Cook’s Auburn love

Cook graduated from Auburn with a Bachelor of Science degree in industrial engineering in 1982. Since then, he has been an ardent Auburn supporter. That is particularly true of Auburn sports.

Earlier this year, when the Auburn Tigers basketball team was in the Final Four, Cook even called the Paul Finebaum Show on ESPN to geek out about sport.

“It’s the one thing we can all rally around and people put their other interests aside to either fight the other side or hopefully join forces,” he said. “Sports always comes up. CEOs are people too. They love sports.”
