The Tetris Company is bringing a brand new Tetris game to mobile, and it’ll be unlike any Tetris game you’ve played on iOS or Android before.

Tetris Royale fuses the beloved falling block franchise with the incredibly popular battle royale genre. Fans have already gotten a taste of what to expect with Tetris 99 on Nintendo Switch, and soon everyone else can enjoy it.

Tetris 99 made its debut back in February as an exclusive for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers. It’s surprisingly terrific for a free game, and insanely addictive. But you can’t play it if you don’t have Nintendo’s latest console.

Fortuntately, you will be able to get your hands on something very similar — maybe even better? — at some point in the future.

Tetris Royale is already in testing

Tetris Royale, developed by N3TWORK, will offer similar gameplay. Fans will compete in 100-player games and use quick thinking and rapid reactions to eliminate opponents and be the last alive.

But unlike Tetris 99 on Switch, the mobile version of the game promises multiple game modes, and the ability to earn rewards for customizations, power-ups, and other items that can be used in future matches.

Tetris Royale will also feature daily competitions and a solo mode that you can use to practice your Tetris skills.

Tetris at an unprecedented scale’

“Our team at N3TWORK is inspired to partner with this incredible brand and create new ways for millions of mobile game players around the world to play, compete and enjoy Tetris at an unprecedented scale,” said CEO Neil Young.

So, when can you get yours hands on it? The Tetris Company hasn’t actually confirmed a release date yet. Tetris Royale is still in development. But a beta test will roll out in select territories sometime this year.

In the meantime, we highly recommend you try out Tetris 99 if you own a Switch and haven’t already played it. It’s a ton of fun. It’s free to play. And it isn’t loaded with in-app purchases.
