OWC makes an eye-opening claim about the Envoy Pro Ex: the company claims its latest solid-state drive is faster than any rival with a USB-C connection.

In addition, the portable drive can stand up to dust and even immersion in water.

OWC Envoy Pro Ex: Best in class

With speeds up to 980MB/s, the company isn’t shy about making its claim. “This is unquestionably the fastest USB-C SSD ever produced…period,” said OWC CEO and Founder Larry O’Connor.

That said, drives that use Thunderbolt 3 can transfer data more quickly. However, anyone using USB-C won’t find a speedier option. That includes Macs and PCs, as well as direct-connect to devices like cameras.

The Envoy Pro Ex has an anodized aluminum enclosure and a IP67 rating. That makes it dust tight and able to survive for up to 30 minutes in 1 meter of water.

OWC offers the Envoy Pro Ex in 250GB, 50GB, 1TB and 2TB capacities. Prices range from $129 to $429.75. In addition, for $89 customers can get just the DIY enclosure and insert their own NVMe.
