Although the notch at the top of the iPhone X display drew quite a bit of criticism, many Android makers like the idea. LG might become the next to release a device that resembles Apple’s flagship phone.

A supposed leak shows LG’s next signature smartphone will have a notch in its screen, according to TechnoBuffalo.

Makers of high-end phones clearly want to produce a dazzling display that takes up the entire front of the device. The problem is, such designs leave no room for the front-facing camera and advanced hardware that power features like the iPhone X’s Face ID.

Why the iPhone X notch exists

Apple solved the problem by adding a small inset at the top of the screen, which some dubbed the notch. Some people hated the notch; others (including us) loved it.

While you might call the notch controversial, Android makers at both the high and low ends of the market are now rushing to emulate Apple’s design.

LG is reportedly going to be the sole supplier of OLED displays for the rumored iPhone X Plus, so the company will apparently be producing screens with this shape already. Perhaps LG will use them in its own products as well.

The leaked details of LG’s upcoming flagship smartphone indicate that it will split its notifications icons on either side of the notch, just as the iPhone X does.

Other iPhone X imitators

While Samsung poked fun at the iPhone X notch when showcasing the new Galaxy S9, other companies already unveiled phones with the iPhone X notch, or rumors say they are about to.

Images of the OnePlus 6 that appeared online show the device sporting a notch.

A smaller Chinese company named Doogee is also prepping an iPhone X clone. In this case, rather than including the notch as a way to solve the problem of where to put a front-facing camera, the designers are just copying everything about Apple’s latest.
