Is the iPhone 7 camera really Hollywood-worthy?

The Oscar-winning director behind Traffic and Ocean’s Eleven is coming back to the big screen in 2018. Only instead of filming his latest movie on Hollywood-quality rig, Steve Soderbergh is turning to Apple’s iPhone to capture all the action.

Soderbergh’s new film Unsane will debut in its wide release to theaters on March 23. According to Deadline, Soderbergh will self-distribute the film through his Fingerprint Releasing via Bleecker Street.

Details on the film are still a bit murky but it’s supposedly a horror movie in the same vein as Jordan Peele’s critically acclaimed hit Get Out. Unsane stars Claire Foy, Joshua Leonard, Jay Pharaoh, Juno Temple, Aimee Mullins and Amy Irving. The plot centers on a young woman who is involuntarily committed to a mental institution.

There’s no word on which iPhone Soderbergh used to film Unsane. Considering it was shot this summer it was likely on an iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus. This certainly isn’t the first movie filmed on an iPhone, but it could be the most high profile iPhone-created project ever considering the success of Soderbergh’s previous films.

Hopefully we’ll get a behind-the-scenes look at how he pulled off filming with the iPhone once the movie comes out Easter weekend 2018.
