Developers received the fifth beta build of iOS 11.1 this morning, just three days after Apple released the last batch of updates.
The new iOS 11.1 beta 5 update brings a number of bug fixes and performance improvements to the iPhone and iPad. Apple added a couple of UI tweaks and new features in the previous iOS 11.1 beta build.
Registered developers can grab iOS 11.1 beta 5 from the Apple Developer Center. It can also be downloaded directly to iPhone and iPads if you have the proper installation profile installed on your device. Apple has also released a public version of the build for members of its public beta testing program.
What’s in iOS 11.1 beta 5
iOS 11.1 beta 5 is a small update, weighing only 47MB. The release notes for this update don’t mention any major additions. It most likely just focuses on final tweaks to make it ready for the public.
Apple is bringing a number of small changes in iOS 11.1. The biggest is the addition of dozens of new emojis. New emoji characters include Woman with Headscarf, Bearded Person, Breastfeeding, Zombie, Person in Lotus Position and new food items such as Sandwich and Coconut.
The new emojis also have new faces, clothes, sports, food, dinosaurs and other mystical characters. iOS 11.1 also brings back the 3D Touch app switcher screen that Apple removed in iOS 11.
Considering this is the fifth beta, it seems unlikely that peer-to-peer Apple Pay will be added this software update. Apple is expected to bring that feature, along with iCloud support for iMessages, in a future iOS update this year.
Apple also released a fourth beta build of macOS High Sierra 10.13.1 and tvOS 11.1 beta 5.
