SEGA’s back catalog of games is one of the best there is, and the Japenese giant won’t stand by and watch it die. The new SEGA Forever collection for iOS offers a growing catalog of classic console titles from every era — from Master System to Dreamcast.

What’s more, every one is free to play.

Nintendo might be one of the hottest names in gaming right now thanks to its exciting Switch console, but if you were on team SEGA growing up, it’s your turn to get excited. SEGA Forever is bringing some of your most beloved games to mobile.

SEGA Forever brings classic console games to iOS

The collection has already landed on iOS and Android, and initially consists of five titles: Sonic the Hedgehog, Altered Beast, Phantasy Star II, Kid Chameleon and Comix Zone. Each one will be completely free to play, with optimizations for the modern day.

You’ll be able to save your progress in each game, and compete against other players on a worldwide leaderboard. Each title will fully support wireless game controllers, and you’ll be able to enjoy them offline without a data connection.

SEGA is promising a new addition to the collection every month, each of which will be downloadable as a standalone title — and they will also be free. This lets you pick the games you want to play, and ignore those you don’t.

Of course, SEGA has to make money somehow, so each title will include ads. However, those ads will only appear at the start menu and save screens, so they won’t get in the way while you play.

If you want to banish ads — and make local saves, rather than just online saves — you’ll need to cough up for a $1.99 in-app purchase for each title.
