That Apple’s next iPhone may contain few surprises does not surprise fans growing impatient for game-changing innovation.

The next iPhone may have them seeing red.

Red is reportedly set to join the color lineup of Apple’s 2017 iPhones, according to the Japanese Apple news blog Macotakara.

Citing an unnamed Tiawense supplier, the new iPhones will be S models, updates to the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus. There will be no wireless charging or glass chassis, two rumors that have been floated about.

The only significant new detail coming to the “iPhone 7s/7s Plus,” according to Macotakara, is an A11 chip.

So in an era of journalism we will remember for Trump and fake news, I present this information to you with a big asterisk.

The red iPhone may be a red herring, that is, by Macotakara’s own disclosure. The site referred to it as a rumor and as far as reporting rumors go, Macotakara has been accurate in the past with leaked details about upcoming iPhones.

Last month, it reported another color rumor, a jet white iPhone 7 that would soon be introduced So far, no word on that.

But red is a color that makes sense for Apple. Apple is a partner with the (RED) organization to help fight the spread of HIV and AIDS. Apple will issue (PRODUCT)RED devices and send a contribution to the Global Fund.

Apple has produced the iPod shuffle, nano and touch in red, offers red watch bands and red cases for iPhones and iPads.

So a red aluminum iPhone might be kind of cool.
