My shiny new MacBook Pro finally arrived. What kind of YouTube channel would Cult of Mac be running if we didn’t film a MacBook Pro with Touch Bar unboxing?
In today’s video, I open up my new space gray laptop, fire it up for the first time, and record my first hands-on impressions. Check it out below.
Peeling off the plastic is as great an experience as always. Upon opening the lid, the MacBook boots into life immediately to reveal the familiar setup process.
What’s different this time? There’s the new touch ID sensor to set up. After that’s done, you can unlock your MacBook Pro with a fingerprint, just like on recent iOS devices.
MacBook Pro screen and Touch Bar
The screen on the new MacBook Pro, with its wide color gamut, is amazing. I’m usually not one for seeing a huge difference in screen upgrades, but this time around the improvement is immediately clear. The colors are richer and the blacks are far deeper.
The Touch Bar, on the other hand, is going to be one of those things that take a while to get used to. Within my first 10 seconds, I found myself trying to touch the laptop screen when pulling my hand away from the Touch Bar.
It really does feel like a mini iPad screen — there’s no lag and it’s just as responsive as you’d hope.
MacBook Pro keyboard
As with the Touch Bar, the keyboard will take some getting used to. The keys are shallower, so there’s less travel when pressing them. Don’t get me wrong; it still feels super-nice to type on. It’s just a little different.
After my first 10 minutes with the new MacBook Pro, I’m loving everything. Whether I’ll keep the pricey laptop or not, though, is still up in the air.
I’m sure by the time I finish my full review I’ll either be clinging onto it for dear life or running back to the Apple store before the return policy is up.
