Instagram’s new app Boomerang lets users create one-second videos of everyday moments, then share them to Instagram, Facebook or Twitter.
The new app is a lot like the new Live Photos feature Apple introduced on the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus. Boomerang takes a burst of five photos, stitches them together into a mini-video, then plays the clip in forward and then reverse — you know, just like a boomerang!
Here’s how it works:
On of the big benefits of Boomerang clips over Live Photos is the ability to share them with people that don’t have an iPhone 6s. However, there are some workaround apps that let iPhone owners export Live Photos as GIFs or movie files for easier sharing.
Boomerang is available on both the App Store and Google Play starting today.

Just wanted to point out that anyone can view Live Photos taken on an iPhone 6s by just holding the photo down.
Got a pop up message about ad blockers when visiting this page – fair enough, and I do want to support Cult of Mac. But the ad blocker I’m using doesn’t let me whitelist. Any chance you guys could do a round up of the best ad blockers to help me choose a good one that lets me whitelist?
Or get rid of the Auto play video on the sidebar. 5mb just to load a three paragraph post?
You don’t have to have an iPhone 6S to view a live photo, you just have to have iOS 9. You do need a 6S to create a live photo though.
