Dan Lyons lambasted Steve Jobs and his fellow Silicon Valley cronies for years under the Fake Steve Jobs blog, but now after stints at Fortune, Newsweek and Hubspot, the tech writer will mock a new generation of startup wannabes and tech wackos as a writer for HBO’s hit comedy Silicon Valley.
Few have captured the depravity of Silicon Valley with the satiric wit of Lyons at the height of his popular Fake Steve blog, but in an email to Cult of Mac, Lyons says it was his work on a different show that he developed a few years ago – also a comedy set in Silicon Valley – that caught the eye of some of the people at the show.
Lyons told Valleywag’s Sam Biddle the new gig is, “incredibly huge. I’m scared shitless, frankly.”
Work starts in June as Dan will take a 14-week leave of absence from his role as marketing fellow at Hubspot to help write the second season of the show.
Silicon Valley producers have already tapped real-life journalists, including Re/Code’s Kara Swisher, to lend authority to the comedy, but adding Lyon’s critical eye to the mix could add an extra punch to the drop-dead hilarious show.
