If you replaced your first-gen Kindle Paperwhite with the new model just to get Goodreads integration, Cloud Collections and the cool new page-skimming feature, then you should look away now. An update pushed today to the first-gen Paperwhite has added all of these features to the older model.
It’s not all bad. I was setting the Lady up with my old Kindle a couple days ago and it was sluggish in comparison to my new one. The faster processor really makes these new feature sing.
That said, those features are all worth having. I don’t use the Goodreads much, but the Cloud Collections that are synced across all your Kindle apps are good, and the Page Flip is essential, effectively letting your put a finger on the current page and flip back and forth without losing your place.
You also get inline footnotes, the vocabulary builder, better bookmarks and highlights and pretty much everything else form the Paperwhite 2 bar the new processor and better backlight.
Well done Amazon, I say.
