A couple of weeks ago, FiftyThree started accepting preorders for its new Pencil stylus. Pencil is designed specifically for FiftyThree’s Paper drawing app. The simplistic stylus connects over Bluetooth via on-screen paring in the Paper app and has features like palm rejection, blending, and quick erasing.

The Paper app has been updated with these new software features for Pencil in conjunction with preorders beginning to ship to customers.

Palm Rejection— Pencil and Paper work together to produce the most sophisticated and effective palm rejection in any app available today. No setup, no calibration, just natural feeling writing and drawing.

Erase— Pencil’s unique built-in eraser lets you get down to what’s essential.
Blend— Pencil takes care of the lines so you can use your fingers to blend colors on the page and smooth rough edges without ever picking up a tool.

Kaizen
– Expressive Ink Engine — Rebuilt to feel faster and more responsive across all tools.

Pencil is available online in a $50 graphite model and $60 walnut model that can magnetically stick to Apple’s Smart Cover. If you preordered a Pencil on day one, you should get it within the coming week. Orders made within the last few days will take 3-4 weeks to ship.
