This is big: Blizzard, the mega-developers behind the Starcraft and Diablo series, is planning on releasing their first iPad game, set in the Warcraft universe.
Even better? It’ll be free.
Announced today at PAX East in Boston, Blizzard’s new game is calledHearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft a free-to-play collectibe card game a la Magic: The Gathering.
In Hearthstone, each player will pick one of World of Warcraft’s nine classes to construct a hero, then duel against other players using up to 300 cards, with more cards available either through in-app purchase or by playing. You’ll also be able to put together your own decks, craft new cards and disenchant duplicates.
Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft is coming to PC and Mac first, and the iPad soon after. Blizzard is signing people up who want to take part in the beta test, with all in-game purchases being credited back after the beta period as fresh packs of cards.
I love Blizzard’s games, and with Hearthstone, it looks like we’re finally going to get a proper Blizzard title that is cross-platform across the iPad and Mac. I can’t wait.
