Wouldn’t it be cool if you could drop your iPhone or iPad on top of your speaker and have it charge as it pumps out the tunes? That’s the promise of TDK’s Wireless Charging Speaker, a product with a name about as self-evident as it gets.
The speaker is similar to TDKs other handsome offerings, only instead of being a strap-hanging boombox it’s a cuboid speaker for moving around the home, kind of like an oversized Jambox.
The speaker has Bluetooth, a USB “chraging” port and controls for treble and “base.” But aside from the product page’s typos, this looks to be a cool little speaker.
And of course it will charge your iPhone. You’ll need a Qi-compatible case for your device, but once that’s in place you just drop the the iPhone onto the TDK’s built-in charging pad and you’re done. Qi charging is a standard, so in theory it could be adopted into any and all portable devices in the future, but right now this TDK box is something of a niche product. It’s also far from cheap: at $400, you could buy at least two of many competing speakers.
