Cydia Buckles Under The Weight Of New Absinthe Jailbreak [Jailbreak]

Where are the changes?

The Chronic Dev Team released its Absinthe 2.0 jailbreak this morning for all iOS devices running iOS 5.1.1. This is the first jailbreak available for the newly-released third-gen iPad, and Absinthe 2.0 has already become the Chronic Dev Team’s most successful release to date.

Servers are getting slammed and folks are having a difficult time jailbreaking their devices. Cydia itself seems to be buckling under the weight of all the new jailbreakers today, as repos are failing to load. iDB has also noticed the Cydia errors, so don’t fret if you can’t immediately download jailbreak tweaks and apps.

If you’re having trouble jailbreaking with Absinthe, give it time. Don’t disconnect your iOS device in the middle of the jailbreak process, as Absinthe will fail to recognize it again unless you completely restore to iOS 5.1.1. iPad jailbreaks are taking an upwards of 60-80 minutes, while most iPhones seem to jailbreak in a matter of seconds. We’ll keep you updated on new developments.

In the meantime, check out some of the best jailbreak apps in Cydia. If you’re jailbreaking your iPad, we have a roundup for you too.

My iphone 4 Verizon ran jailbreak after restoring via settings. jailbreak didnt work and I learned to restore using iTunes but I am unable to. I get this “this device isn’t eligble for the requested build”? Whats going on?

Im hoping to be able to jailbreak or at least fully restore my phone.

I’ve never felt the need, or desire to jailbreak my iPhone.  But lately, I’ve been contemplating on it just fort shitz and giggles, and to play around with it.  How difficult, or rather how annoying is it to revert back to previous state if or when I want to go back?  eg. Is it as simple as restoring my phone from back up?  Do I lose all my original purchases, or would I have to just re-download them?  Is Malware really as bad with Cydia apps as I keep hearing it is?
