Samsung Pokes Fun At iPhone Users Again In Super Bowl Ad For Super-Sized Galaxy Note

Samsung’s bashing of iPhone users is becoming a regular occurrence. Its latest swipe came during yesterday’s Super Bowl, when it ran a commercial for its new, super-sized Galaxy Note smartphone, which sports a huge 5.3-inch display and includes a stylus.

Yes, “it’s got a pen!”

Like its previous ads, Samsung’s latest 90-second clip pokes fun at iOS fans who stand in line to get their hands on the latest device. It was directed by Bobby Farrelly, known for films like There’s Something About Mary, Dumb and Dumber and Kingpin, and features British rock band The Darkness.

One of the Galaxy Note’s best features, according to the advert, is its built-in stylus. But Steve Jobs would disagree. Apple’s co-founder and former CEO once famously proclaimed, “if you see a stylus, they blew it.”

But they do not use it as stylus .
They just add it to make notes which is really cool but the question is how many people will actually use this pen ?
Plus Galaxy Note is kinda huge so it will probably will not work for everyone even it is a really nice phone/tablet .

  • sundaytrucker

Not as good as the previous iOS mocking ad.

That Samsung phone is just too big for me, the current iPhone is about as large as I want a handset to be.

  • leetut

i did almost buy one of these the screen size is perfect for me
in the end i bought an i4s because they hold their value better and i always sell my devices on ebay after a year so i can pay off the contract and get the latest model,
made a loss of 50% on my 9 month old as new condition open network galaxy tab 7″
but the loss was only 35% on my 2 year old and in battered condition and network locked 3gs
life is all about the percentages

To be fair, showing people stood in a que doesn’t automatically mean they are poking fun at Apple. I love Apple but to be fair, not everything has a link to Apple – think that is a bit 1 dimensional thinking

  • pollix

To be fair, Apple is Samsung main competitor.  Its who they were targeting.  This is like part 3 to the commercials Samsung is doing.  They are after Apple.

  • Ed_Kel

The first commercial was creditable because it was around the time of the 4S release; people were in fact waiting in line for the “next big thing”. Months later, Samsung is still poking fun at Apple’s long lines…?

  • joewaylo

They need to update their venue. The long lines only last two months then dials down to users in the store for buying the product. It’s 3 1/2 months later and Apple has the 4S available now for online ordering. Their lines certainly don’t last that long except in China a few weeks ago where they had a flash mob buying the 4S.

The iPad 3 is when they can take advantage of the commercialization again. And iPhone 5.

  • markrlangston

The problem with that theory is that this is the mantra they’ve been singing for several months and from the start it’s been clear that they’re targeting Apple’s long lines.

With that said, there’s not too many other products of late that demands people waiting in line to get their hands on. I’d say that if there’s a long line of hipsters it’s probably an Apple line.

Maybe Call of Duty but the idea that a hard core gamer would lose his/her place in line for a Samsung phone…with a pen…is ridiculous. So yeah, it’s an Apple line.

  • Nathan Glass

The real joke is that Samsung spent millions to advertise a pen.

  • ddevito

I admire Samsung’s audacity but frankly these ads are pointless.

The Note is one sweet device though.

  • Arnoud van Houwelingen

The galaxy Note is too big for a phone and too small for a tablet. No way i am gonna buy a smart phone that is bigger then 4inch.

  • ctt1wbw

I guess if you have big man hands, a phone like this would be great.  Like Andre the Giant man hands.

  • csman

    Is Apple the new Microsoft?

  • koopapoopas

It’s cheaper for me to buy a nice Wacom stylus to use with my iStuff.

  • Silent Phart

A stlyus and a 5.3″ screen?  I started thinking this was an Apple commercial doing spoofs on Samsung.  No wonder Apple didn’t run their own ad…the competition did it for them.

  • Cold_dead_fingers

It’s funny how they breathe reality into the comercial at the end mentioning how it was over the top. Also notice how there have been 3 commercials of three Samsung devices all against one iPhone. What does that tell you? People complain that the next iPhone comes out too fast, how will they feel now that Samsung has 7x the amount of phones in a span of a year?

  • Cold_dead_fingers

What’s also funny is that almost everybody in this comercial probably have an iPhone. Director too, most likely.

  • Evan Benford

All black people in the choir…gotta love commercial stereotypes

  • PlatformAgnostic

Oh hai where was everyone saying ‘this ad is pointless’ when Apple were (often erroneously) flaming MS for, ooooh, ages in commercials? Roll with it, everyone, don’t pick it to bits, have a laugh for once – everyone here is buying iPhone 5.

  • creativesouth

Samsung is riding the coattails of Apple’s success once again. If Samsung spoofed another phone maker they would not have received as much press.

  • markrlangston

The idea that a stylus is enough to…ahem, draw me away from my iPhone is laughable.

  • marcomeneghello

I found this video of people in line with iPhones (at Super Bowl), they’re all samsungated…

  • CharliK

they are mocking people that stand in line for a release. There’s only one device company that has folks standing in line — Apple. It is an obvious leap and a correct one

  • CharliK

Especially after Apple’s even better ad (and free one) with the winning team all pulling out their iPhones to film the trophy being carried in.
