Alec Baldwin Gets Thrown Off Flight For Playing Words With Friends On His iPhone

Like many of us, 30 Rock star Alec Baldwin has a love for Apple’s iPhone. He frequently uses the device to send messages to his Twitter followers, and his addiction, the popular word game Words With Friends, recently got him thrown off an American Airlines flight to New York.

According to Yahoo! news, Baldwin was not willing to put Words With Friends away while the plane idled at the gate:

The “30 Rock” actor was playing a game called “Words with Friends” while the plane idled at a gate Tuesday, said Baldwin’s spokesman, Matthew Hiltzik.

“He loves `Words with Friends’ so much that he was willing to leave a plane for it,” said Hiltzik, who added that Baldwin boarded another American Airlines flight to New York.

Baldwin kept his Twitter followers up to date, with a message that read:

flight attendant on American reamed me out 4 playing Words With Friends while we sat at the gate, not moving.

He also stated this would be his last flight with American Airlines.

Lets be fair here. He wasn’t kicked off for playing Words with Friends. He was asked to put away his device, just like everyone else was asked to. He decided he was above the rules and didn’t. He was told, perhaps curtly, that his choices were follow the rules and put up the phone or leave the plane. He choose to leave, just like he choose not to follow the rules.

Yeah, but everyone also knows that using a phone during takeoff is not really going to do anything to the plane.  Especially if he was just playing a game and the iPhone was already in airplane mode.

The hostess was quoting the rules, but they are silly rules.  Once they saw he was just playing a game, they should have left him alone after giving him the warning about not using the telecommunications functions.

This sounds like typical USA bully-boy, law-and-order tactics if you ask me.

He’s a fat, bloated, arrogant asshole and he deserved what happened to him.  Just because he thinks he’s so great, it doesn’t give him special priviledges over the rest of us.  This has nothing to do with what he was doing on his iPhone.  It’s that he wasn’t following the rules!

So we should leave it to anybody to decide which rules they need to follow on an airplane?  Or is it just Alex Baldwin that can decide that?

While I agree that cell phone usage on airplanes is probably not going to interfere with its operation, if you don’t like it, lobby the airline industry to change that rule.  You don’t get to decide which ones to follow and which to ignore.

    Baldwin acted like a douche.

It doesn’t matter if the rule is the most inane piece of caca ever. it is the rule and he knew he needed to follow it or pay the price. He decided not to follow it. And yet he’s got the ego to act like he was put upon. This isn’t Kevin Smith who was told that he had to buy two seats on a plane and did and then was told he still couldn’t board after following the airlines rules.

The irony is that Alec’s an actor and we have literally dozens of rules on every set and he’ll jump not only to follow them but to shove them down folks throats if they don’t.

This news has cheered me up. I’m due to catch a long haul American Airlines flight in a week’s time. Now that the chances of Alec Baldwin inconveniencing everybody else on that flight have dropped from slim to none, I’m in a better mood.

He could have brought the plane down with all that imaginary interference!

Every flight is different, but I have seen flight attendents allow drunk passengers to stand up while the plan is landing, and not report them to authorities. I’m not talking 30,000 feet either. In one instance a drunk passenger continued to stand up during landing even after the plan was below the height of buildings and trees. The flight attendant told him to sit down at least ten times, each time he complied, but then stood right back up again a few moments later. However, the guy was harmless and it was a late flight so none of the flight crew or passengers wanted to be delayed.

If you know Alec Baldwin you know in the past he has a bit of a mean streak in him. It’s not the first time he’s had a brush with the rules. He does have a bit of a temper as well. Not surprised at this. It’s like Lindsay Lohan getting pulled over for speeding, it doesn’t surprise anyone.
