Apple Releases Statement On Foxconn Factory Explosion

The folks at All Things Digital have obtained a statement from Apple in regards to the explosion that occurred at Foxconn’s facilities in Chengdu China where the iPad 2 is manufactured.

Apples statement:

“We are deeply saddened by the tragedy at Foxconn’s plant in Chengdu, and our hearts go out to the victims and their families,” Apple said in a statement provided to All Things D. “We are working closely with Foxconn to understand what caused this terrible event.”

Apple’s expression of sympathy is clear, however Apple would not comment on how the explosion might impact production of the iPad 2.

Chinese authorities have confirmed that the explosion took the lives of two people and at least 16 others were injured some seriously. According to Bloomberg, Foxconn’s chairman Terry Gou was on the way to view the site of the explosion on Friday. He wanted a personal look at the damages, the efforts that will be required to recover from the explosion, and to see how he could assist the people affected by the explosion.
