New York Sen. Charles Schumer is speaking out about a .380-caliber gun disguised as an iPhone, which he says is a “disaster waiting to happen.”

Schumer called on the Department of Justice and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to look into the iPhone gun — and possibly ban it — before it comes to market.

The $395 weapon is being produced by a company called Ideal Conceal, which notes in its promotional literature that: “Smartphones are EVERYWHERE, so your new pistol will easily blend in with today’s environment.”

Ironically (well, at least in the Alanis Morissette sense), Schumer last year spoke out about an iPhone case disguised as a gun. There have previously been cases of dangerous iPhone cases — including the Yellow Jacket iPhone stun gun case, which delivers 650,000-volt shocks to assailants — a Knucklecase that turns your iPhone into a set of brass knuckles, and more.

Last year, one of Europe’s busiest airports was brought to a panicked standstill after a passenger thought it was a smart idea to travel with an iPhone case resembling a gun.

Does the world really need an iPhone gun? I guess this is more of an issue than I’d previously thought!
