“10 Mac storage tips to help you free up extra hard drive space”

“Hard drive?” Who uses a hard drive?

None of my computers or iOS devices have used hard drives for years.

HDD’s still come standard on most macs, SSD’s are usually optional. Also “Hard Drive” will drive more clicks than “freeing up extra Disc Space.” What the author wrote is not incorrect, and anyone who knows what an SSD is, or the difference, will understand what the author means.

“Freeing up extra disc space” is also incorrect. There are no disks in SSDs. I would say “freeing up extra drive space,” which includes hard disk drives and solid state drives.

Also, apostrophe’s should never be used to pluralize noun’s, including acronym’s, including HDD’s or SSD’s.

There is a misstatement about apps from the Mac App Store in Tip #2. You may only re-download an app from the Mac App Store so long as that app is still sold in the Mac App Store. Should a developer cease distributing their app through the Mac App Store, then it can no longer be downloaded through a user’s Purchased list. Many of us have learned that the hard way with both the Mac App Store and the iTunes/iOS App Store.

This is one of the things that irritates me most. If I purchase it, it should be available in the cloud forever. Kind of hard to save storage space if you have to worry about a movie being removed from the Store.

Clear out your Downloads Folder works best if you don’t use the Downloads Folder at all, but have Downloads with your browser assigned straight to Desktop path. You’ll clean up as soon as your desktop is scattered with .dmg Files.
