Budget iPhone 6c will feature Touch ID and Apple Pay

The rumored 4-inch iPhone 6c will boast an A8 processor, Touch ID and Apple Pay, according to a new report coming out of the Apple supply chain in China.

If accurate, this will be a major upgrade from the iPhone 5c, which had an A6 processor and no biometric authentication. A previous report also claimed that the iPhone 6c will feature an all-metal chassis compared with the “unapologetically plastic” look of its low-cost predecessor.

The move to include Apple Pay makes a lot of sense, given that the 4-inch 6c will be targeted not only toward users in search of a smaller handset, but also developing markets. Since Apple is trying to roll out Apple Pay as a standard, it follows that the company would want all its new iPhones to support the technology.

Today’s report also claims that Foxconn is barring employees in its Zhengzhou plant from taking days off prior to the launch of the iPhone 6s. I would presume this refers to holidays, rather than seven-day work weeks, but you never know with Foxconn!

Either way, we’re expecting to see the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus debut September 9, while the iPhone 5c may arrive two months later in November.

“Women with smaller hands” – even men with large hands can’t use the iPhone 6 single handedly and there are lots of men who want smaller and more discrete phones that easily fit in the pocket and not phablet sized devices for teenagers who consume all their media on a phone.

Fair enough. I’ll amend. I was referencing one of the early reports which explicitly named women as a target market.

As a man with average size hands I can use the 6Plus one handed easily, and it fits in my jeans pocket. I understand not everyone wants a 5.5″ device, but surely the regular 6 is small enough.

      • Brassman says:

The regular 6 is too big. The 5 was the perfect size. The 6+ is reasonable for those who want a big screen. Offering 3 different sizes might make everybody happy.

        Apple current have 3 sizes…stfu.

Not without double tapping touch ID to pull the screen down you can’t – its not even possible to use the regular 6 without double tapping to pull the screen down and even then one handed use is awkward, you can’t give it a death grip in public like you could with the 5. Couple that with the fact its the ugliest thing I’ve has designed, poor space grey colour, too big, too slippy, ugly antenna lines, protruding camera and its definitely the worst iPhone i’ve owned and i’ve had every one since the day the first was released in the UK (its also the first who’s screen i’ve broken as its too big to tuck properly in a pocket and thus it slips out too easily).

I am a man with average sized hands and I prefer smaller phones. I use my phone for business and informational purposes, not media consumption. I want a small iPhone (under 4.3 inches) and large iPad (over 9.5 inches). But I do not want a plastic or “budget” iPhone. I pay premium money for premium devices.

Id even pay £200 more than the cost of the 5.5″ phablet to have a flagship 4″ device because I know its difficult to match power and features in a smaller package – anyone (i’m look at you Samsung) can go bigger and bigger and cram stuff into a large frame with little clever engineering.

I think there is an error in the last sentence. The iPhone 5c was released September 10th 2013..
