For me, it’s the burning question of 2015: “Should I buy an Apple Watch?”

As editor and publisher of Cult of Mac, everybody’s always asking me if Apple’s smartwatch is a must-buy. The simple answer is there’s no simple answer, for reasons that might surprise you.

Obviously I’m an Apple fan, but not everybody loves Cupertino products. The Apple Watch haters will tell you the device is not as flexible or innovative as Android Wear smartwatches. And the tech press seized upon a doom-and-gloom Apple Watch sales guesstimate to paint the wearable as a flop.

On the other side of the coin, Tim Cook remains bullish on the Apple Watch, but that’s not too big of a surprise — he’s a tireless Apple cheerleader.

Far more importantly, some forward-thinking app developers are going all-in on Apple Watch apps.

Evolutionary versus revolutionary

To my mind, the Apple Watch is more evolutionary than revolutionary. It’s a gadget that grows on you (or at least it did for me). It helps me out in many day-to-day situations, making life a bit simpler and better in a hundred different ways.

After just a few months of wearing my Apple Watch, if I happen to forget it, I feel naked without it.

But the question remains, should an average person — who’s perhaps not totally into trying out the latest, greatest new gadgets — strap an Apple Watch on his or her wrist? Get my take on the matter in this week’s edition of Kahney’s Korner.
