The display rating experts at DisplayMate got intimately acquainted with Apple’s bigger than big display over the weekend, and after thorough testing, the LCD experts pronounced Apple’s 5.5-inch display the best performing LCD display they’ve ever tested on a smartphone.

The iPhone 6 did pretty well too in their iPhone 6 Display Technology Shootout report released this morning.
Here’s the rave review they gave the iPhone 6 Plus display:

“The iPhone 6 Plus is the Best performing Smartphone LCD display that we have ever tested. It delivers uniformly consistent all around Top Tier display performance…

The iPhone 6 Plus matches or breaks new records in LCD Smartphone display performance for: Highest Peak Brightness, Lowest Screen Reflectance, Highest (True) Contrast Ratio, Highest Contrast Rating in Ambient Light, most accurate (pure logarithmic power-law) Intensity Scale and Gamma, most accurate Image Contrast, and the smallest Variations with Viewing Angle for Brightness, Contrast Ratio and Color.”

Apple’s smaller display also performed very well in tests, though DisplayMate noted that rescaled images look better on the 2.1 mega pixel screen of the iPhone 6 Plus instead of the 1.0 Mega Pixel iPhone 6 display. Fix text and graphics also looked better on the 6 Plus, but you’d need to have good sight to notice them.

Still, they rated the iPhone 6 display as ‘very good’ and say “most buyers will be happy with its performance….The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are the current Best Mobile LCD Displays.”
