You may know FreedomPop as the guys who will turn your iPod touch into a free iPhone, but if you have an iPad, the carrier is now willing to do the same thing, giving any Sprint-compatible iPad free talking, texting and data.

An iPad is not an iPhone, of course, but it does have LTE abilities, which is all that FreedomPop needs to use its proprietary VOIP technology to graft iPhone-like abilities onto your Apple tablet, giving it a phone number that can receive texts and phone calls. They’ll even throw in a free headset so you don’t have to hold a big tablet up to your ear.

The free plan includes 500MB of LTE data, 200 voice minutes and 500 texts, and supports any iPad that is Sprint-compatible, although FreedomPop thinks the iPad mini makes the most sense. Go through your data or minutes? No problem: FreedomPop is planning on it. That’s how they make their money, by selling you additional minutes and data if you go over.

If you don’t use your iPhone much, favoring your iPad, this is a pretty great deal that offers the best of both worlds. You can find out more and sign up for the service on FreedomPop’s website.
