Facebook Is Getting Ready To Wage War On iAds

Every aspect of Facebook’s entire business is essentially designed to target ads. Is anyone surprised, then, that the social networking giant intends on launching its own mobile ad network, similar to Apple’s iAds?

According to a report on Re/code, Facebook intends on taking the wraps off of a new mobile ad network at the Facebook Developer Conference in San Francisco at the end of the month.

Facebook already serves ads, so what does that mean? Well, it means you’ll start seeing Facebook ads even when you’re not on Facebook. It’s a way for Facebook to pervasively creep beyond the perimeters of its own apps, especially in the free-to-play market.

It also, obviously, goes head to hear with iAds, Apple’s own mobile ad network… which, let’s face it, has been something of a bust since it first launched a couple of years back.

But selling ads is something that Facebook is very good at. In the first quarter of 2014, Facebook generated $1.24 billion in mobile ads, and that was just from its own app. Facebook hopes to expand that pool substantially by making Facebook ads available to other developers.

We should know more details at Facebook’s conference. It’s scheduled to begin on April 30.
