InRoute really does look like my new favorite journey planner. It’s a Universal map app with a whole slew of useful extras, including charts for elevation, curviness (!), wind speed, precipitation and more. It looks especially good for folks who understand that a journey and its route aren’t just about the miles.
The app lets you search on a route, and then tweak that route to change its waypoints. Motorcyclists can find the curviest roads, and bicyclists will like the option to add time into the mix and get a weather forecast, showing you when and where the wind will blow. You can also check elevation, to avoid boring flat roads and take to the hills instead.
And car drivers can search for gas stations along the route (as well as campgrounds and more). And all routes can be sent to the Navigon satnav app, or imported/exported via GPX and KML.
InRoute is a free download with a $2 in-app purchase for premium features. I’m grabbing it right now.
