Meet The iPhone Air, Apple’s Lightest iPhone Yet [Concept]

002c

Apple’s design patterns are pretty much set at this point: every other year, they radically overhaul the look of the iPhone or iPad.

Next year’s iPhone 6, then, will be a major departure from the iPhone 5 and iPhone 5s, and designer Federico Ciccarese of Ciccarese Design has a good idea of what to expect: a slimmer device that looks a lot more like an iPad Air or iPad mini called (yup) the iPhone Air.

It’s a beautiful design, and certainly borrows Ive’s current design language. Unlike many concepts, it seems plausible. With rumors of Apple going to a larger display for the next iPhone swirling, this seems like a good idea of what it might look like. What do you think?

I don’t think we’ve found a way around physics just yet… I wouldn’t want the iPhone to have a disgusting plastic window on it like the iPads or iPod touches.

It’s definitely plausible, and maybe even likely. Then again, many people, include various publications, reported similar thoughts on the iPhone 5, which was purported to be called “The new iPhone,” like the “New iPad” which later just took the title of iPad 3, or 3rd Gen. — So, who the heck knows!

The problem with the iPhone being made out of a solid aluminum back is that it will block the phone’s antennas from receiving signals. At least part of the back of the phone must be glass or plastic in order to be able to receive calls. The curvy back presents a problem for glass, as it would have to be cast in a rounded shape, which can be done, but it’s a more suitable job for plastic.

I much prefer the flat squared off edges of the 5/5s over these rounded corners. This is practically the same as the 3G and 3GS. The grip is much worse than what we have now. Don’t see this happening.

iPads and iPod touches have disgusting plastic windows?

He means the the plastic piece covering the WiFi antenna on the back on all the iPod touches excluding the 4th gen, and the cellular versions of all iPads. :)
