Ultra HD 4K iTV In 2014? This Analyst Thinks So

Apple iTV iMac hybrid concept

Even though most of the focus has shifted t the iWatch, people can’t seem to stop talking about Apple’s mythic HDTV, the iTV. Case in point: ahead of today’s iPad event, a Tokyo-based analyst has gone on record out of the blue saying 4K 55-inch and 65-inch iTVs are coming next year.

Citing anonymous sources, Advanced Research analyst Masahiko Ishino told Bloomberg:

Apple Inc. (AAPL) will probably start selling ultra-high definition televisions with 65- and 55-inch screens during the fourth quarter of next year, according to a Tokyo-based analyst at Advanced Research Japan Co.

The Cupertino, California-based company is deciding on specifications, and the models likely will have a frameless design, Masahiko Ishino, an analyst at Advanced Research, said in an interview Oct. 18. Ishino declined to identify the people who gave him the information.

Ishino says that Apple TV will cost between $1,500 and $2,500, and that LG will make the displays, Samsung the GPUs, Corning the glass, and Foxconn will assemble.

I don’t think we’ll see an iTV in 2014 any more than we’ll see one in 2013, but I could be wrong. What do you think?
