iOS 7 Needs To Come With This Simple App Switcher Concept [Video]

iOSappswitcher

One of the most common complaints that we hear about iOS is that it’s getting boring. We’ve been using practically the same interface for over 5 years and haven’t seen any major changes, so people are hoping for something new and exciting with iOS 7.

Jesse Head’s iOS 7 App Switcher concept comes with the type of UI changes we’re hoping to see. The simple concept makes switching between apps more effective. You wouldn’t have to deal with thumbing through a row of little app icons, but instead would see a bunch of app tiles with live previews. You can swipe to quit, search for apps, and control your music or brightness in a flash.

Here’s a video of the concept in action:

It looks a lot like the Cards from WebOS, but seems how HP isn’t using it anymore, I don’t see why Apple shouldn’t try. What do you guys think about the concept? Do you want to see Apple add something like this? Or does app switching work just fine for you right now? Let us hear your thoughts in the comments.

It’d be even cooler if the search bar doubled as a “shredder”, “shredding” the apps if you swipe them up.

Ok, but still no efficient way to close multiple apps at once.

Auxo does nearly what is described; one of my JB fav apps.

very much like Windows Phone app switcher and live tiles combined. Very cool.

It’s nifty looking, but is it really ‘more efficent’ than the current. Not to me. Seems about like the same amount of effort. Live previews is cute but something only the 5% really needs. Same with the toggles.

Face it, Apple is NOT and is likely to never design for the techno geek vast minority. If this is the stuff you insist in having with get something else or take your chances and jailbreak. But don’t show your total egotism by claiming this kind of thing is something Apple must do.

More like a battery drain unless Apple masters it.

  • bdkennedy

Live tiles + live previews = major battery suckage. No thanks. Plus when I close apps, why would I want to see one giant tile that takes up more space instead of 4 little icons that take up less space?

  • _C4LE

in my opinion, this is the absolute best way i’ve seen to do the app switcher to date. the only thing i would add would a clear all button. but with swipe to quit, having a clear all button is as necessary. great mock up. really hope apple adopts this.

Um, isn’t this WebOS? Looks pretty similar to me. And what is so much better about seeing the full page of the icon? I’d much rather save my battery AND see 4 open apps at a time. Auxo on my jb iPhone is better than this. It shows the windows but it shows 4 at a time, just like the switcher does now. I’m honestly sick of the “kids” with their short attention spans demanding my efficient iPhone be changed so that it looks different and can hold their attention for another 6 months. If it ain’t broke…..

Looks pretty neat, but I’d rather be able to see 4 recent app icons rather than only seeing one “card” at a time.

I think it would be useful if Apple implemented gestures for app switching. Swipe from off screen to the left/right to go previous/next app. Swipe up from the bottom to reveal app switcher. Swipe down from the top to go to Springboard.

So a less useful concept of Auxo, a real jailbroken app you grab now? Auxo does the same thing, live previews, swipe to quit, except with 4 tiles instead of one non-useful one. One of the best jailbreak tweaks.

Gee, the iPhone works great! So easy! Let’s change it just for the sake of bored masturbxxters and confuse everyone….

What about An iPhone with Comfort Mode and GoPro mode, like cars have comfort and sport mode?

Gives good demo. However if you actually need to efficiently use your iPhone this isn’t helping at all for obvious reasons.

LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT!! Hopefully someone gets this in front of Ive. I would love to see this implemented in iOS 7. I love my 5 but it seems like Apple has yet to take real advantage of the extra .5″.

Love the track too! The entire presentation and execution was quintessential Apple. If I’m nitpicking you can’t let the song fade. It has to cut at just the right time with the Apple logo at the end.

I loved everything you said, except I don’t think ‘legally’ adding Apple’s Logo would be a good idea at the end ;) Should have put his logo and email or web address at the end.

The problem with the swipe from off screen, etc is that games and apps that use that gesture have limited space before notifications or the app switcher would take place, unless they have some kind of two-three finger pick up, but that’s not efficient for iphone which is usually held with one hand.
