Apple works hard to ensure that inappropriate content doesn’t end up in the wrong hands, and it has strict ratings and approval processes for content distributed through the App Store, the iBookstore, and the iTunes Store. But it would seem the Cupertino company isn’t quite as careful with its social media accounts.

On Sunday night, Apple’s official iBookstore account on Twitter retweeted a lewd message that would certainly get a 17+ rating from the company.

The not-safe-for-work message read: “Let me suck a dick and tell you how much I love introspective novels.”

The tweet wasn’t even sent to the iBookstore’s Twitter account, but it was found and retweeted anyway.

As you might expect, it wasn’t long before the action was reversed, and the message could no longer be found in the iBookstore’s timeline. But it had already been seen by plenty of followers, many of whom complained about the message. One wrote:

Why, in god’s name, would you retweet something like that!?

We’re assuming the retweet was accidental. In some Twitter apps, and indeed on the website itself, it can be easy to hit the retweet button accidentally. Whatever the case may be, I’m sure whoever’s running the iBookstore’s Twitter account will be more careful in future.
