The Packaging For Your Next iPhone Might Transform Into A Dock

We’ve seen a number of Apple fans come up with clever docks for the iPhone by using packaging materials Apple ships products with. Taking a cue from their customers’ resourcefulness, Apple has a new patent that shows iPhone packaging that can also double as a dock after it’s been opened.

The packaging on the iPhones would come with a solid base and a removeable lid. Once the iPhone has been removed, parts of the packaging could be adjusted to provide a stand for the iPhone and room for a Lightning syncing cable underneath.

The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office just published the patent today even though it was filed in May of 2011. Obviously the transformer packaging dock didn’t make it into the iPhone 5’s packaging, but we’d love it if the iPhone 5S came with a similar feature.
