Start Your Engines! Carmageddon Comes To iOS, And It’s Free Today Only

It pays to be a madman behind the wheel in Carmageddon.

The violent driving sensation that is Carmageddon makes its debut on iOS today, 15 years after it was first released — and subsequently banned for its twisted mix of automotive killing machines — on Mac and PC. It’s available to download right away from the App Store, and it’s free for today only — so grab it quick.

Carmageddon actually came to iOS with the help of Kickstarter, which is why its free for the first 24 hours — to thank its backers. The title is an exact port of the original, where pedestrians equal points and you get higher scores for being more violent.

Carmageddon features real-world environments that have been turned into killing fields, where the locals stay out on the streets at their peril. As well as using your car as a weapon, every level is sprinkled generously with power-ups that have a vast variety of mad effects, adding a whole extra level of craziness to the proceedings.

In every event you have the option to “play it your way”… Waste all your opponents, kill every pedestrian, or (perish the thought) complete all the laps. Oh and watch out – the cops in their super-tough armoured patrol vehicles are lurking, and if they catch you being bad they’ll be down on you like several tons of cold pork!

Carmageddon features 28 “dangerously deranged” opponents, 11 exhilarating environments, and a career mode with 36 crazy levels. You can unlock 30 different cars, and collect 27 different achievements. Other highlights include iCloud support, which syncs you game across your iOS devices; Game Center integration; multiple control methods, and more.

You can even record your gameplay and upload it straight to YouTube. Carmageddon is ready for the iPhone 5’s larger 4-inch display, and it’s a universal app compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.

“subsequently banned for its twisted mix of automotive killing machines”

I’m surprised grand theft auto was not banned for a similar event. Didn’t they involve running pedestrians over and smashed the crap out of everything?

I thought carmageddon was banned for foul language. All the time you hear “son of a b—-!” “God d— mother!”
