Introducing The iPhone 5 With Widescreen Retina Display [Video]

Created and animated by Sam Becket, this cheery video of all the features the next iPhone 5 will pack when Apple announces it tomorrow.

Unlike some of the videos that have gone around lately, it’s remarkably down-to-earth, emphasizing (as Apple will) the device’s extraordnary thinness, its new antenna, the new 9-pin Dock Connector, LTE, the new nanoSIM, the longer screen and more.

Towards the end, not being able to help himself, Becket goes off the rails a little bit. He predicts AuthenTec-style fingerprint scanners, and a new “Mission Control” for accessing the iPhone’s most commonly used settings. The former we’re not going to see this generation, and the latter — while undeniably a lovely notion — we would have seen a glimpse of in the iOS 6 betas already.

If I were a betting man, I think Becket’s right that the way Apple will pitch the new display is “The iPhone 5 with widescreen Retina Display.” It’s an elegant way to explain a change in aspect ratio that doesn’t actually make things on the screen bigger.

Zomfg! An iPhone with just a tad longer so you can fit an extra row of icons!!!? Truly groundbreaking! Apple is always behind the competition expect Hardware quality wise.

that’s a pretty damn good video concept of the iPhone 5, too bad half those features wont be available for years. And they know they don’t have to, I mean cut/paste was added only a couple years ago how pathetic. The most pathetic thing is that I will most likely buy the iPhone 5 haha. If i didn’t use iTunes I would probably have switched last year thanks to the disappointing 4S.

Someone needs to make a device that stabs jobless design graduates in the face every time they make stupid iDevice concepts.

Pardon me. I meant “except”. Apple does make good quality products. However, that doesn’t negate that I’m tired of them barely innovating software wise and playing catch-up. I’m going to wait until tomorrow before deciding to ditch my iPhone 4 for the 5 or the Galaxy Note 2.

Well done Sam! Did Ziggy and Al helped you with the video?

I’m DEFINITELY going to hold off buying one of these until they’ve sold a bunch and have all of the “issues” worked out. I’m specifically concerned about the iPhone 5′s Retina display which, if made by LG, may have the image retention problem that’s plaguing many early adopters of the Macbook Pro with Retina display (including myself). Google “Apple – Please Recall Retina Macbook Pros with LG Displays” for more info. This problem is real, check out the photos we’ve taken of our screens. If you’re a professional who needs the images on their screen to be accurate, please wait until they’ve fixed this issue – and that goes for the Macbook Pro with Retina display AND the new iPhone 5!
