Like a healthy baby in utero with all its fingers and toes showing on the ultrasound, we’ve now got a pretty good picture of what the next iPhone will look like: longer, thinner, a new metallic back, a smaller 19 pin dock connector and, of course, a bigger 4-inch display.

It’s going to be a beautiful phone, but what next? It’s unlikely that Apple will do another major iPhone revision for awhile, which means future iPhones will, for the forseeable future, probably just refine the forthcoming design.

Here’s a beautiful concept of what the iPhone’s design could look like in the next couple of years, courtesy of French designer Nak.

It manages to hit a sweet spot for us between futuristic and organic; inky and bright. We also love the way it throws back to the original iPhone’s design. Not such a fan of the stranger Spider-Man-style segmented volume buttons, though, but that’s a niggle.

There are some problems with this concept — for example, a longer iPhone would probably have five rows of icons on the iOS homescreen, not four — but otherwise, this is great work from Nak. More images below.

Well that’s an outright terrible design.

Too thin, curves in the wrong places, and what idiot thought moving the Home Button would ever be a good idea?

  • Gabriel Dornier

It makes a lot of sense, since apple clearly made its product for righties, the home button is always accesible. Furthermore, easy thumb access while watching a movie…

  • mr_bee

    Awful.

When will non-designers learn that renders are not “design” and a design is much, much more than just making a “cool” render? This guy is no designer.

Also, please disable the disgusting, annoying, invasive Tynt text on this site you bastards. Where do you get off f*cking up copy and paste so you can advertise your site? Despicable.

Why do mock-ups always have the Apple logo where the home button is.

  • joewaylo

    - I get the 3.5mm being back on the top in the middle, but why’s the home button have to be a side clicker? I’d settle for the Apple Logo to be the touch sensitive home button really.
    – AT&T and T-Mobile might one day obliterate the SIM requirement soon enough. I’d wipe off the SIM tray. It’s not necessary to have those unless you’re able to save your contacts to the SIM and transfer them to a regular cellphone. But regular phones are going that of the dinosaur soon enough. The key competitors (Win Mo, Android, and iPhone) have all your pertinent information stored on the cloud.
    – I agree with the Op that the icons should be 5 rows, not a blown up 4 rows. Otherwise the icon resolution would be pixelated unless Apple changed the resolution of the icons to 400×400 HD pixels.

Or it could look exactly like the iPhone 5, 2012 since Apple likes to keep the design for at least 2 years if possible.

Who gives a flying what some Frenchie thinks anything Apple will look like?….. Unless he’s commissioned by Apple then he has no idea whatsoever.

  • Boris Terekidi

This looks like sh&t. No office…

  • ddevito

looks like a Galaxy Nexus, only fatter

Now we know this was a BS mock up… no accuracy whatsoever.

Huh. Is it 2013 yet? I hadn’t noticed.

This is a terrible mock up. Why would Apple go from a big screen back to a small screen again, doesn’t make sense. And why would Apple have its logo as the home button that’s just plain stupid.

What is it with this Tallest Skil Troll?…. The article is from July and is referring to the iPhone 5 as it turned out. Giving me an off-topic rating is just childish…. Some people need to grow up a lot….. So if you can’t beat them then join them… Here, have one back.

Hey. Grow up. This was a mock up. It was always a mock up. It was never supposed to be anything even remotely resembling what was real. It was not designed to be real. It was not passed off as real. YOU mistook it for being real, and your comment reflects that. Therefore it is off-topic, as the topic is not discussing whether this is a real image or reflection of what the real device was supposed to be.

Moments like this when I’ve just realised I’m dealing with a 12 year old mind, then you should do as I am doing and give up…. I won’t respond to further comments you make, no matter whether you need the last word or not (which of course you do).
