New Tiny Wings Teased, Dated With Cute Little Music Box Trailer

So. Cute. Am I right?
So. Cute. Am I right?

“Finally it’s coming: Tiny Wings 2! And now it’s teaser time.”

So says the twitter account for the one-man success story of Andreas Illiger, creator and developer of one of the hottest iOS games of the past year and a half, Tiny Wings. Tiny wings hasn’t been updated since September of last year, so we can only assume that Illiger has been working on this new project, or others, since then. While the tweet mentions the number two, the video does not, referring to the new iOS title as “The New Tiny Wings.”

The teaser trailer shows a paper strip and a music-tape player. A pair of hands threads the paper tape, itself depicting the cute, hand-drawn, familiar world of Tiny Wings. A little paper cutout Tiny Wings bird connected to a thin metal rod or twig is placed atop of the music making machine, and the camera zooms in while the music machine’s crank is turned, music plays, and someone (Illiger, we hope) moves the bird up and down on the paper tape background, finally settling in tiny little nest next to an egg.

Note the date at the end, July 12: next Thursday. This is a guy who is famously shy; such a “long” pre-release announcement is sure to drive us media folk into a frenzy. Let’s hope he’s not inundated by people on his lawn, banging at his screen door, loudly wondering why he chose to play this little music machine on top of a piece of wood itself sitting on some wet sand, as at a beach.

Tiny Wings took the iOS game scene by storm, selling millions of copies and taking the top paid game spot in the App Store for two weeks, a huge feat with the reigning champion Angry Birds still in the race at that point. Here’s hoping that he can capture the same level of perfect gameplay as well as the download numbers this Thursday.
