Instaglasses Are Just What You Think They Are

Instaglasses Are Just What You Think They Are

These Instaglasses make the whole world look retro-tastic.

Instaglasses. What a fantastic idea. Sadly only a concept (and surely destined to remain so), these special specs survey the scene before you and apply your choice of Instagram filter to the real world. You’ve heard the expression “seeing the world through rose-tinted glasses”? Well, these are retro-tinted glasses.

Markus Gerke’s design not only looks the part, right down to the box, but it is also as easy to use as the real Instagram. A slider on one arm of the spectacles activates the filters, and it you see something you like, you can tap a button and upload it to your Instagram feed.

How do the specs add such special effects? Who knows. As any good concept designer knows, the point is to dream, not get bogged down in anything as boring as reality.

But you know what? Even without the fancy functionality, I’d buy these glasses in an instant. From the retro leather top bar through the rainbow on the bridge to the 70s-style Polaroid shape, they’re pretty cool as-is.
