iOS 5.1 To Drop On March 9th [Rumor]

We’ve all been wondering when Apple will release the next update for iOS 5, with many speculating we won’t see 5.1 until the next-generation iPad is unveiled. According to a new discovery in the iPhone’s carrier operator profiles, Apple could be set to drop iOS 5.1 on Friday, March 9th.

The discovery was made by YourDailyMac:

We today discovered that Apple published eleven new profiles for various iPhone-operators. These files are compatible with iOS 5.1 and are set for release on March 9. This could indicate that iOS 5.1 will be released around that date, is will be available for the following devices; iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPod Touch 3G/4G, iPad, and iPad 2.

The profiles are intended for operators in Japan, France, Greece, Finland, and Sweden. Apple has to update the iPhone’s operator profile with each new build of iOS so that the network connection will work properly.

The iPad 3 is expected to come out in March, so there’s a possibility this March 9th date could hold a simultaneous launch of the next-gen iPad and iOS 5.1. Apple could announce the iPad 3 earlier in the week and make it available with the release of 5.1 that Friday.
