iOS hacker and Chronic Dev-Team member Pod2g is making quite a name for himself right now as he works away on an untethered jailbreak for iOS 5. According to his latest blog posts, he has now completed the code for an untethered jailbreak on all A4-powered devices, suggesting a public release of the exploit isn’t too far away.

Devices powered by Apple’s A4 processor include the iPhone 4, the fourth-generation iPod touch, the first-generation iPad, and the second-generation Apple TV — all of which can be jailbroken with Pod2g’s latest exploit when running iOS 5.0 or iOS 5.0.1:

iPad 1 5.0.1 untethered code is done, testing tomorrow with a friend’s device. Just to let you know my progress in real time. iPhone 3GS 5.0.1 untethered code is done. Testing tomorrow also! iPod 4G 5.0.1 untethered too ! :o ). Apple TV 2 4.43 untethered done also. Will be able to test in some days.

While the iPhone 4 isn’t mentioned in Pod2g’s blog post above, he has previously confirmed that this hack is complete.

This is great new for those who are itching to get their hands on an untethered jailbreak for Apple’s latest iOS software, and it suggests a public release of this exploit shouldn’t be too far away now. The same can’t be said, however, for A5 powered devices — that’s the iPhone 4S and the iPad 2.
