iOS 5.0.2 Is Coming Next Week To Solve Your iPhone 4S Battery Problems, While iOS 5.1 Will Make Siri Even Smarter [Rumor]

Still having battery life issues on your iPhone 4S under iOS 5.0.1? We’ve already proven the issue is a software problem, not a hardware problem, which means Apple should be able to fix the iPhone 4S’s electric arterial spray… but when?

Real soon, as it happens. In fact, one Apple software engineer says the iOS 5.0.2 update is coming next week. In addition, Apple’s working on its first big point release of iOS 5, which will bring new extensions and abilities to Siri!

According to German Apple blog Macerkopf, an Apple engineer hard at work in the iOS division tells them that Apple has finally licked the battery problems, and will release the fix no later than the end of next week, bringing all iPhone 4Ses up to a standard 40 hours of standby and 10 hours of use.

More exciting, though, is what Apple has in store for iOS 5.1. Siri will apparently be getting some incredible new functionality, including support for these commands:

  • Take a picture.
  • Make a video.
  • Switch on/off WiFi
  • Switch on/off BlueTooth

If true, not only is Siri going to become even more integrated with the iPhone 4S and iOS 5, but it sets a great standard for future point releases, where Apple makes Siri even more smart every few months by expanding her vocabulary. Unfortunately, outside of word that Apple’s working on the update, there’s no ETA, but I think most of us would be happy with the battery life being fixed for now, don’t you?

Is that all for 5.1? So there’s no reason for anyone except 4S users to upgrade? >:/

the sooner the better! I really hate the battery problems! Siri? Never had any chance to make it to use though…

  • Alex Stewart

That is all that’s being rumored to be released with the 5.1 upgrade. I’m sure they’ll add a few little things in there to make other iOS device users happy.

  • Alex

I still have not noticed any battery performance problems on my 4S.

  • Bpeltz

My battery life has been excellent. Lasts for two full days without any issues.

  • jgr627

No way your getting that on a 4S…..I get 6hrs max usage

  • Lesley Kirk

Had no problem with mine, I must be lucky because I never got any problem with my antenna on my Ip4 either. looking forward to improvements with SIRI though.

I NEED TO ASK THIS… Why ifans still buying iPhone even with countless problems?

I HAD THE IPHONE 4 THEN BOUGHT THE IPHONE 4S, TESTED IT FOR 15 DAYS…

LOTS OF BUGS, ESPECIALLY THE BATTERY LIFE WAS HORRIBLE…

THEN I SAW AND TESTED THE MOTOROLA DROID RAZR AND HTC REZOUND…

BOY, THAT 2 SUPER LTE SMARTPHONES BEAT IPHONE 4S IN ALL ASPECTS…

EVEN WITH THOSE COUNTLESS PROBLEMS WITH IPHONES, PEOPLE STILL BUYING IT AND DEFEND IT…

I HAVE IPAD 2. IPOD TOUCH 4, IMAC, MACBOOK PRO & AIR AND APPLE TV…

BUT HONESTLY WHEN I STARTED TO USE THE GINGERBREAD WITH HTC SENSE 3.5, ios5 IS NOT COMPARABLE… HOW MUCH MORE TO THE ICE CREAM SANDWHICH THEY WILL LAUNCH LATE THIS YEAR OR EARLY JANUARY…

IM NOT PRO OR ANTI APPLE, IM JUST WONDERING ABOUT TO THOSE IFANS THAT EVEN THEY SEE LOTS OF PROBLEMS WITH IPHONE, THEY ARE LIKE IZOMBIE AND IMORON DEFENDING APPLE…

    What a nerd.

  • StuartDonaghy

    It is in the UK?!

  • StuartDonaghy

Why are you shouting?! I was having problems with the battery on my 4S. DId a complete restore & setup as new phone, boom, battery as it should.

Basically the backups get corrupt with some people. I agree, not the best solution, but it works!!

And as for Android, it’s truly a horrible OS

  • Brian Brown

    Never.

  • Park

Yeah, that has to be a typo. Maybe it’s supposed to be 300 hrs standby, which would increase the 4S to the listed standby time of the 4 and 3GS.

  • Gereon

    “some incredible new functionality”?:)

    As for the battery probs:
    Stop announcing shit.
    Do it already.
    Jeebus!

  • sir1jaguar

I bought the HTC REZOUND yesterday and your saying ANDROID OS is horrible, can you explain?

My wife still has the iPhone 4s and thinking to buy the droid razr or htc REZOUND but I told her to wait for GALAXY NEXUS…

The iPhone 4s with iOS 5 is NOT COMPARABLE TO GINGERBREAD WITH HTC SENSE 3.5.
I CAN SAY AS WE COMPARE SIDE BY SIDE THE REZOUNF AND IPHONE 4S AND EVEN MY 2 KIDS (14 & 12) LOVE TO HAVE ANDROID PHONES NOW AS THEY CAN DOWNLOAD MP3 MUSIC DOWNLOADER FREE AND DIRECTLY DOWNLOAD THE TUNES THEY LOVE TO THE PHONE, NO NEED TO PAY AND IT HAS LOTS OF CHOICES FROM LIVE TO STUDIO RECORDED SONGS…

There’s lots of stuff we found out that the HTC REZOUND IS WAY BETTER THAN IPHONE 4s from 720p HD DISPLAY, 2mp FFC (iPhone 4s is blurry because it’s VGA), super fast LTE Internet, BEATS HEADSET with super awesome sounds, we never see lagging in gingerbread and htc sense 3.5 and LOTS MORE TO OFFER – OUT OF THE BOX,..

PLEASE TELL ME THE STUFF IPHONE 4S CAN DO THAT THE HTC REZOUND CAN’T…

I have had my iPhone 4S since the day it was released and today I experienced my first issue with battery life.  Generally my battery will last 12+ hours with consistent use throughout the day, but today, my battery was almost completely gone in 5 hours.

What caused the immediate drop in battery life?  I set a location-based reminder using the Reminders app.  I set it to remind me “When I leave work”.  Once I set that reminder, and got to work, the little purple location icon appeared at the top, indicating that an app was currently requesting my location, and stayed lit up in the top bar for the entire day (until the battery died).

I’m assuming this is due to the fact that I had arrived at work, and it is most likely CONSTANTLY checking my location to verify I am still at work, and if not, trigger the reminder.

I am almost positive this is what caused the issue, and I am currently recharging the phone, turning off the location-based reminder and testing the battery life again.

I really hope that this is the issue that Apple is working so hard to fix, as if using this feature kills your battery within 5 hours then it probably shouldn’t have been implemented.

It can use lower case letters!

I will repeat I owned lots of APPLE products since 1985…

I’m just wondering about these people that ONLY OWN 1 product of apple like the iPhone and BECAUSE THEY CANT BUY other gadgets from other manufacturers, they will defend apple like their god…

I’m here to say honestly what we experienced and we’ve owned the first iPhone till the latest one but one of my cousin who own chains of stores (phones) in Houston had more experienced than most of us here love his android phone – nexus one and nexus s – and his patiently waiting for the galaxy nexus. He keep on saying to me from the past if I will just use it to call, txt and sometimes to check email – iPhone is not bad but if you like more power and more tweaking he told me to get the latest and powerful android phone…

Then I returned the iPhone 4s and now using the HTC REZOUND…

I’m not saying iPhone 4s is bad but the HTC REZOUND & MOTOROLA DROID RAZR are both amazing LTE phones from hardware to software…

Gingerbread with HTC sense 3.5 in our testing vs iPhone 4s with iOS 5, we love better the gingerbread and htc sense 3.5 as it can give you more customization and we never see those lagging by other android phones…

So, it’s a real experience and my wife who still can return her iPhone 4s thinking to get the morotola razr or the htz round but I told her to wait till the end of this month for galaxy nexus…

Please don’t defend APPLE iPhone if you see lots of problem (small or big) so they will make heir product more better and truly innovative…

  • Wingsy

“if you like … more tweaking he told me to get the latest and powerful android phone”

There ya go. Tweak till your heart’s content. I’m totally happy with one that needs no “tweaking”.

  • sir1jaguar

    Kid,

    That’s my line before…

But if you will not go out of your shell, you will be stagnant forever in your sad life…

I’m not pro android or pro apple, I’m just using anything that will make me happy…

Since yesterday till now, I’m still excited to use the phone to compare from my former iphone 4s…

From the original iPhone (2007) till the iPhone 4, we unlock and jailbreak it because if NOT, it’s boring as hell.

The HTC REZOUND don’t need to be root or hack for you to be happy BECAUSE THE STOCK GINGERBREAD with HTC SENSE 3.5 is more than enough for my needs…

So do I need to tweak, root or jailbreak my new phone for me to be happy – NOPE???

There’s lot of converts now in my work (I’m nurse anesthetist) and they love their REZOUND and droid RAZR…

  • Guest

    >But if you will not go out of your shell, you will be stagnant forever in your sad life…

Come on, we are talking about a phone not something that will change your life forever. Some prefer iPhone while others prefer Android or something else. Why do some find it so important to convince everyone else they know better. Use your HTC and let everyone else decide for themselves. Some need a phone and find the iPhone to be sufficient while others need “more freedom” to tweak the phone and do whatever they like. To tell everyone that phone X is the best and make it sound like a fact is just silly because it might be the best option for you, but that doesn’t mean it’s the best for everyone else. It’s nothing more than your opinion and just a waste of time trying to convince everyone else. What you might find important with a phone might not be the same as what others find important with a phone.

….and all of this whining just because of a software bug that happens to every product. No software released are completely free of bugs.

Why not accept that some like the iPhone better and they don’t have to explain anything just like you don’t have to explain why you hate iPhone and love Android. Why do you keep repeating yourself and say how much you, your kids and your wife love android? My kids and wife love the iPhone, but who cares. That doesn’t prove anything.

Some think it’s fair to pay for the music and do it legal. Easier to download illegal contents is that your only argument why Android is better?

Al StuartDonaghy didn’t say that HTC couldn’t do something, he just said he find it to be a horrible OS which is his opinion. Just accept that some like iOS better. It’s a free world and no one have to explain anything just because you don’t like their opinion.

Btw seems like your caps lock is stuck. I know the iPhone can type lowercase letters….i guess that’s one benefit with the iPhone.

  • Guest

You ask for everyone else to explain every statement they make. Why not do it yourself and explain what “lots of bugs” you refer to? And let’s talk about the iPhone 4S and iOS 5.x and not bring every bug from the past into this discussion. Android also had many bugs in the past and still have some.

You continue to brag about every Apple product you ever had. I had them all as well, but no one really cares. Read your own post once more and don’t tell us you are not anti iPhone and pro Android because that would be BS.And you should get that HTC repaired so you can type lowercase letters.

  • Eric

I’m just happy that Apple is finally chiming in, n not leavin its users hanging n wondering whats goin on. Some news from d horses mouth is better than no news at all.

  • Eric

I also know a lot of people switching from BB n Android to d 4S. They all love d iPhone. Different strokes for different folks. And those r neither right nor wrong. Its their choice. That goes for BB, Android n iPhone fan boys. No one’s shit smells better than the other. It all stinks.

  • Scrapdoid

Do you get paid every time you capitalize your little droid keywords? Because mixed with improper grammar your posts look like 50% spam posts and 50% trolling.

  • berianlowe

Siri is still pretty dumb here in the UK, and pretty much anywhere other than the US. An update for that would make me happy!

  • Shrfu31

Yeah same here. No complaints about my 4S either. It’s battery life is out of this world compared to my old 3GS. I went a whole day of surfing, Bluetooth, messaging, etc. on only 30-40% battery life. I have an hour and a half commute and will spend the whole time making phone calls between work and family.

Even now, I am typing with only 2%. My old 3GS would have quit and shu toff by now.

You updated to it to 5.0.1.  Bad idea.

  • melgross

Both of your posts are BS. I not only doubt that you’ve had an iPhone, I doubt you’ve had any Macs either.

All you’re trying to do here is to promote Android. We all can see that, so don’t bother.

  • MPD01605

Oh wow I just noticed that.  I set a location-based reminder earlier and my battery’s dropped significantly.
With 5.0 I was getting about 6 hours battery life, with 5.0.1 I’m getting about 12 hours.  Interesting….good find!

  • MPD01605

    Battery life:
    5.0- maybe 6 hours.
    5.0.1- 12.So a good idea for me.

  • MPD01605

    Obvious troll is obvious.

  • Dustin Driese

Yep, 5.0.1 did nothing but improve my battery life.  I tested it and the only time it drains drastically is when I have a location-based reminder set.

Apple, please fix this or the feature is useless!

No one seems to understand that Apple is at the crossroads of humanities, art and technology. It is NOT only about computers and gadgets
They do what they F-in damn please. Suck it up. If you just can’t stand being a bit controlled regarding your user experience, hang yourselves. Period.

The Apple iPhone 4s is fine how it is. My batter lasts 3 days. No complaints here.

  • p2noway

Whats more annoying than iPhone fanboys and PC phone fanboys .. is that they will never get along .. like Hippies and government .. if we did happen to, one day, put down our differences, we may actually be able to create a none-useless piece of crap that could replace these insanely overpriced GOOGLE machines .. Every forum I go to .. is arguing / slander / troll ridden. Why are there no “SOLUTIONS” come on people .. I am tired of only hating / loving everything .. maybe we can all just “like” our phones / devices ?? and learn to make them better (or less useless) !! :)

  • p2noway

its almost not even worth the time to say something positive .. someone will surely take my comment down a notch for being neutral / good willed .. Good luck with your 4S Google Droid Blackberry playbook nexus one, galaxy cellphone. :P
