Pocket brought us a terrific Mac app back in October, and just over a month on, it’s already back with a new update. This one introduces a nice stack of new features, including native Twitter and Facebook support for those running OS X Mountain Lion, new keyboard shortcuts, better Evernote sharing, and more.
Kicking off this week’s must-have apps roundup is Nokia’s great new mapping app called HERE Maps. It’s accompanied by an awesome App.net client called Stream, a great new app that tracks who stopped following you on Twitter, and more.
Twitter may have given up on its official Mac client, which hasn’t seen an update in well over 18 months, but one third-party developer hasn’t. Deniz Mert Edincik, an iOS developer from Turkey, has taken it upon himself to patch the application to provide support for Apple’s new Retina MacBook Pros.

One of the biggest annoyances of using Instagram is when I have a friend who also uses Twitter and I want to mention them in a photo that I’m about to post to Twitter, except their Instagram and Twitter usernames are completely different.
It’s not a huge inconvenience, but it’d just be easier if everything was the same. Instagram says they just solved that problem and now Instagram names will magically be translated to their proper Twitter handle when posted on Twitter.
Tweetbot just dropped on the Mac App Store today, and perhaps the most surprising thing about it is the price. At $20, it’s significantly more expensive than most social networking clients. The thing is, it’s important not to see the number and instantly start making comparisons. You need to look at the price and ask: does this app provide 20 dollars worth of value? Judge it by that standard, and it doesn’t seem so expensive after all.
EA’s free Theme Park game for iOS broke down yesterday, and gamers were unable to access the parks they’d spent time building. The company managed to get everything working again, but once the game was back online, users found that all of their progress had been wiped.
The parks they’d build, the achievements they’d earned, and worse, the items they’d bought using in-app purchases were gone.
Today is Steve Jobs day in the state of California. October 16th was declared Steve Jobs day by Governor Jerry Brown on Twitter shortly after Apple’s co-founder and former CEO passed away last year following a long battle with pancreatic cancer. Although it may have been a one-off holiday,
Echofon has announced that it will be “phasing out” its desktop applications for Mac, Windows, and Firefox this fall to focus on its mobile apps for iOS and other platforms. Desktop apps will continue to function normally in the “immediate future,” Echofon says, but it’s not planning any further updates for the popular Twitter client.
You may not know Loren Brichter by name, but you know what he has made. After leaving Apple, Brichter originally became famous for Tweetie, an innovative Twitter client for the iPhone. Tweetie was such a success on both iOS and OS X that Twitter ended up hiring Brichter and making Tweetie its own official app. After leading the development for Twitter for iPhone, iPad and Mac, Brichter left Twitter last year. He’s been keeping himself out of the spotlight, but now it looks like he’s coming back into the iOS scene with a new game.
Brichter’s company, atebits, hit the 2.0 stage today. Expect the new game to go live in the App Store any moment now.
Here’s a hidden little piece of OS X Mountain Lion: you can view your friends’ tweets from within the Contacts app, provided you’ve added your Twitter account to OS X, and then updated your Contacts with the social networking service. Now that Twitter is directly integrated within OS X, you can connect to the service with many different apps, like the Notification Center and Contacts.

Given Twitter’s recent history of slowly locking down its service for developers and third-party apps, you may be looking for a way around using a special app to send out a Tweet from your Mac that doesn’t include logging into your web browser, logging in to Twitter, then adding your message. Maybe you want to just send out a quick tweet about something, but want to avoid the hassle of launching Tweetbot or the official Twitter app. Either way, you can send out tweets from Notification Center in OS X Mountain Lion.
You need to enable it, first, though. Here’s how.

The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has granted Apple a patent that covers its controversial iTunes logo that first made its debut with iTunes 10 in September 2010. The company’s late co-founder and former CEO Steve Jobs is credited as one of the logo’s designers, and the patent covering its design first filed for in October last year.

Mixel, a wonderful collage and photo sharing app for iPhone designed by Khoi Vin, has just received what is quite possibly its best update yet. In addition to support for the iPhone 5’s larger display, Mixel boasts a number of new features, the biggest of which is the ability to send real postcards, including your own photo collages, from right within the app.

Apple’s new Maps app has taken a lot of stick since its debut in iOS 6 on Wednesday, and users have been flocking to Twitter to post images of towns and villages that have seemingly been wiped out by the Cupertino company.

Forbes released their list of the richest people in the world today, and among the newcomers making the list is Laurene Powell Jobs, widow of Apple cofounder Steve Jobs.
Powell inherited Steve Jobs’ massive fortune, which Forbes estimates to be $11 billion, making her the wealthiest woman in Silicon Valley, and 28th richest person in the world.
We’ve all been itching to get our hands on iOS 6 since it got its first unveiling at WWDC back in June, and today, three months after that announcement, the software finally gets its public debut. Apple’s packed a ton of new features into this update, including some major new features like Map and Passbook, plus some enhancements to existing apps and features, such as new Siri capabilities and a VIP inbox in Mail.
