Popular open-source video player VLC is getting AirPlay support “in about a month.” VideoLan, the team behind it, also plans to make it easier for users to switch to VLC from iTunes.
The confirmation comes just as VLC celebrated a staggering 3 billion downloads — around a quarter of which came from mobile devices.

A software update adds native HomeKit compatibility to the Wemo WiFi Smart Dimmer today.
The in-wall dimmer switch brings smart lighting capabilities via Apple’s Home app and/or the updated Wemo iOS app. As with other HomeKit devices, you can control the dimmer with your voice via Siri from an iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, HomePod, Apple TV or Mac.

After 1473 days of waiting for an update, new Mac minis might finally be on the horizon.
Apple’s ‘More in the Making’ keynote is less than 24 hours away and one of the most anticipated new devices is expected to be an updated Mac mini. Monday is Beta Day at Apple. Today brought shiny new versions of iOS 12 and macOS Mojave. The newest versions are only for developers, but the public just got access to the iOS 12 and Mojave betas released to developers last week.

The smart speaker install base will approach 100 million units by the end of 2018 — but Apple will make up only a tiny piece of the market.
At least, that’s according to analysts at Canalys, who forecast how things are shaping up for the various Amazon Echo, Google Home, and Apple HomePod devices currently winding their way into kitchens and living rooms around the world. Their take home message? That, unless something big changes, Apple is kinda screwed!
