Apple packed the biggest display it’s ever made onto the iPhone 6 Plus, and while its 1920×1080 resolution is great for streaming 1080p videos, it turns out that Apple also secretly added 4K video support without telling anyone.

The iPad Air 2, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus all support 4K video playback out of the box, thanks to the new A8 processor added this year. Apple doesn’t list 4K video playback as one of the A8 chips features, but the discovery was made by the developers behind WALTR, who posted proof of 4K video playback on the iPhone 6 this weekend.

Apple has released iOS 8.1.1 to the general public today after weeks of beta testing the update for its mobile. The update is the first software release since iOS 8.1 last month, and brings some minor tweaks to the Health app, as well as bug fixes for the iPad and iPhone 4s.

iOS 8.1.1 is available as an over-the-air update or via iTunes, and while it doesn’t contain any major new features, a number of performance enhancements have been added. Apple has also released an update for Apple TV 3 version 7.0.2. Major features aren’t included in the update, but

Sony announced its plans to replace your cable box today with its new Playstation Vue cloud-based TV service, that offers live access to 75 of cable’s best channels, without a monthly contract. And it’s coming to iPad too.

The invite-only TV service that’s designed to replace cable will begin to roll out in November to beta testers on the Playstation 4 and PS3, but Sony says it plans to bring Vue to ‘non-Sony devices’ like the iPad, at some point in 2015.

Apple has seeded a second Gold Master candidate of OS X Yosemite to developers this afternoon, following the release of iOS 8.1 beta 2 earlier this morning.

OS X 10.10 Yosemite GM Candidate 2 is now available in the Mac Dev Center and the Mac App Store to members of Apple’s developer program. Xcode 6.1 GM seed 2 was also released this morning, along with an Apple TV Software beta update.

It’s rare that we get to see inside the mind of Apple CEO Tim Cook. It’s even rarer when what he says appears to be largely unscripted and candid.

The PBS show Charlie Rose aired part one of its interview with Cook over the weekend, and the hour-long talk is probably the most revealing conversation Cook has ever had with the press. Here’s what we learned from the interview:

Apple’s iTunes store has increasingly become the place where today’s top blockbusters make their home debut, premiering on your iPhone, Mac, or Apple TV as much as a week before their DVD releases.

But with Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Apple is getting one of its biggest jumps on the competition yet. The comic book political thriller is debuting on the iTunes Store three whole weeks before its Blu-Ray or DVD debut.

Apple is stuffing the lineup of its 2014 iTunes Festival concert in London next month with the additions of Jenny Lewis, Lenny Kravitz, SOHN, Jessie Ware, Ryan Adams and 16 other artists and bands.

The new acts will join the likes of Pharrell, Beck, David Guetta and Robert Plant at the Roundhouse in London, with the first acts taking the stage on September 1st followed by 29 more days of music. Tickets are free if you live in the U.K., but if you’re stuck in the U.S., all of the concerts will be streamed live to Apple TV and iTunes.
