Italy fines Apple $12 million over misleading iPhone water-resistance claims

Italy’s competition authority has fined Apple 10 million euros ($12 million) for allegedly misleading customers about just how water-resistant iPhones are.

Apple claims that several of its iPhone models can withstand being submerged for up to 30 minutes. However, the competition body says that this is only with pure water in a lab. Such tests supposedly yield different results from real-world scenarios in which a phone may be dropped into water.

Apple today released a small “bug fix” update for iPhones. iOS 14.2.1 takes care of problem that caused the iPhone 12 mini’s touchscreen to not always respond on the Lock Screen. A couple of other small problems were taken care of too.

In an unusual move, there is no iPadOS equivalent for this update. It’s iPhone only.

Apple is reportedly working on a software fix for the iPhone 12 screens that take on a greenish tint. Hardware replacement won‘t be required.

A similar glitch cropped up with the iPhone 11 earlier in 2020 and was taken care of with an iOS update.

Apple reportedly ready to start testing foldable iPhone prototypes

Apple has asked a number of manufacturing partners to begin building foldable iPhone prototypes, according to a new report. Foxconn and Nippon Nippon have been tasked with providing samples for testing.

It is believed the first foldable iPhone could make its debut as early as 2022.
