With the OWC USB-C Dual HDMI 4K Display Adapter with DisplayLink, your M1 MacBook can use a pair of external monitors. Photo: Ed Hardy/Cult of Mac
MacBooks with an Apple M1 processor can handle only one external monitor, but the OWC USB-C Dual HDMI 4K Display Adapter with DisplayLink doubles the number. And Mac mini users can connect to three monitors with it.
I put the USB-C HDMI adapter through a round of testing to be sure it lived up to the claims.
There's nothing wrong with a computer setup that keeps things simple. Photo: Doug@SanFrancisco
Not every computer setup needs to be a visually stunning technological showcase, despite appearances to the contrary on social media sites. The best setup is the one that gets the job done. And, for many people, simpler is better.
Doug, a lawyer from San Francisco, extolled the virtues of his spare but highly functional MacBook-centered setup when he reached out to Cult of Mac recently.
Now is the right time to buy an iPad Air 5 Photo: Apple
An Amazon seller has discounted the 2022 10.9-inch iPad Air with Wi-Fi connectivity to its lowest-ever price of $554.87, a sweet $44.13 discount from its retail price of $599.
The discount is only available on the pink shade of the iPad, with other colors discounted by anywhere between $30 and $40.
It beats paying for a MacBook Pro. Or does it? Photo: [email protected]
Apple products are famously not cheap. So much so that some people will go to considerable lengths to avoid shelling out for a new MacBook Pro, MacBook Air or iPad with keyboard. Today’s featured computer setup belongs to a traveling musician (famously not rich).
He takes his Mac mini on the road with him. Of course, with a Mac mini, you also need some sort of display and input devices, as in a keyboard and a mouse or trackpad. And you have to find room and set it all up wherever you lay your head.
Is it worth it? For some people, it is. We’ll explain why.

The Mophie Speedport chargers, designed to power up iPhone, iPads and Macs, come in 30W and 67W sizes.

The robotics engineering student who made a name for himself replacing an iPhone’s Lightning connector with USB-C is at it again. But this time he’s bringing a USB-C AirPods charging case into the world for the first time.
Ken Pillonel got $86,000 for the iPhone. No word yet on whether crazy money will come his way for the AirPods case.

SwitchEasy's EasyStand is a stand and sleeve for your MacBook. Photo: SwitchEasy
Wouldn’t it be cool if you had something to slightly elevate your MacBook Air or MacBook Pro while you use it and to serve as a protective sleeve when you take it on the go?
Well, you can do both things with the SwitchEasy EasyStand Leather MacBook Sleeve. It’s available — and affordable — in the Cult of Mac Store.
2nm processors made by TSMC will be faster while using less power than today's 5nm iPhone and Mac chips. Image: Ed Hardy/Cult of Mac
iPhones will continue getting smaller, faster and more efficient processors for years to come. TSMC, the company that manufactures all Apple’s chips, says it should be able produce processors in 2025 that are an amazing 2nm. These should make today’s fastest Macs and iPhones look like slugs in comparison.
Rival Intel is working hard to keep up. It says it’ll pass TSMC in a few years – but it’s missed plenty of similar self-imposed deadlines over the years.
