We’ve been speculating on Apple’s partnership with Nuance for some weeks now, and confirmation the two companies are working together comes with the new speech technology discovered in the Mac OS X Lion beta. Now you can hear those new voices for yourself.

Party planner Stephanie Gordon was flying from New York to Palm Beach when the caption told passengers they might witness the final launch of the Space Shuttle Endeavour this morning.

As the plane descended, Gordon pulled out her iPhone and snapped some incredible pictures of Endeavour as it punched through the clouds:

I’ve seen a lot of iPad and iPhone cases over the last few years and the iSkin Summit is the first iPad case that makes me want to scratch my head in disbelief. It’s so different that I just have to call it weird and the garish red color of the sample I was sent only made it worse.

Ever since we exclusively learned that Apple was planning to use near-field communications not just to enact mobile retail payments but to enable an “>ambitious remote computing service that will allow you to literally carry around your Mac on your iPhone, we’ve been excited to see NFC hit the iPhone.

But contrary to previous reports, don’t expect it this year. Apple’s plans for NFC are too ambitious to realize before 2012, according to a new report.

It may not be as pretty as an Apple product (but seriously — what is), and at $180, it’s almost double the price of the ATV. But Elgato’s HDHomeRun comes in swinging for the fences with a trick Apple’s little black coaster doesn’t have: the ability to stream live TV, in HD, to your Mac or iPad — even over a 3G connection.

The convention of rumor has it that the next major version of iOS 5 will boast some truly spiffy, industry-changing voice recognition and text-to-speech capabilities, courtesy of a broad partnership with Nuance… and if those rumors are true, than this could just be what it will look like.
