Apple Lifts Club, Prepares To Smack Down Patent Troll Lodsys

By

Shadow-of-the-colossus

Patent troll Lodsys has been suing iOS indie developers for using Apple’s own in-app purchasing mechanism. Sleazily, the company has claimed that they had no choice but to go after the little guy because Apple refused to cough up an App-Store-wide patent license.

No surprises here: Lodsys’s actions have roused the Cupertino Colossus, and they might not like the response they get from disturbing the sleeping giant’s slumber.

The iPad 2 already has phenomenal, 10-hour battery life, largely thanks to a combination of Apple’s custom-built, power-sipping A5 chip and the fact that inside, the iPad 2 is mostly battery.

Thanks to a new, cutting-edge tablet coating, though, your next iPad could run for twenty hours or more on a single charge, while providing Kindle-like outdoor readability.

‘Coyote’ and ‘Hollywood’ are the code-names of two tablets rumored to be a part of Amazon’s
upcoming tablet ‘family’. Details obtained from one tipster reveal the Coyote will boast a dual-core processor much like Apple’s iPad 2, whereas the Hollywood has something even more audacious up its sleeve: hardware that Amazon hopes will potentially make the iPad 3 obsolete even before it launches.

Dragons’ Den for iOS Is Not Worth the Investment, So I’m Out! [Review]

By

Dragons-Den-Main

As a big fan of the TV show here in the U.K., I was very much looking forward to the release of the Dragons’ Den official game when I heard it was making its way to the App Store. With little disposable income in real-life, I was looking forward to getting my hands on some virtual millions and carefully investing in some whacky inventions.

I downloaded Dragons’ Den from 2waytraffic as soon as it hit the App Store, but I’m rather disappointed with version 1.0.

Store-Image-5

Confirming our exclusive report last week that Apple Stores were scheduling meetings with all retail staff in late May, we’re now hearing reports that all Apple Stores in the United States will hold all-hands meetings for the morning of Sunday, May 22nd. And given the preparations and secrecy, something big seems like it’s about to shakedown in celebration of Apple’s ten year retail anniversary.

Update: The app is now in the App Store: https://bit.ly/countcon

Here’s a simple app that’s unlike anything we’ve seen so far. CountCon, soon to be available in the iTunes App Store for $0.99, will allow you to set a countdown (seconds, minutes, hours, days). The countdown will then appear on your home screen as a badge that automatically updates when needed. It’s currently being reviewed. And finally, it’s a universal application. Check out the demo video after the break!

Don’t Expect To Use The iPhone 5 As A Credit Card, Says New Report

By

500x_iphonepay

Ever since we exclusively learned that Apple was planning to use near-field communications not just to enact mobile retail payments but to enable an “>ambitious remote computing service that will allow you to literally carry around your Mac on your iPhone, we’ve been excited to see NFC hit the iPhone.

But contrary to previous reports, don’t expect it this year. Apple’s plans for NFC are too ambitious to realize before 2012, according to a new report.

New HDHomeRun Streams Live TV to Your iPad

Ignore the Sony in the background; this tiny gadget is all Apple.

It may not be as pretty as an Apple product (but seriously — what is), and at $180, it’s almost double the price of the ATV. But Elgato’s HDHomeRun comes in swinging for the fences with a trick Apple’s little black coaster doesn’t have: the ability to stream live TV, in HD, to your Mac or iPad — even over a 3G connection.
