Sharing a big storage plan can save money, and make things simpler. Photo: Charlie Sorrel/Cult of Mac
In iOS 11, you can share your iCloud storage with family members. This is a big deal, thanks to the new supersize iCloud plans, which make it a lot cheaper to buy a single 2TB plan and share it among all your family members.
With all that storage available, you can keep a huge iCloud Photo Library, and take full advantage of the new Files app in iOS 11. Never again will you run out of storage on your iPhone, iPad or the MacBook you foolishly specced at just 128GB of storage space. Here’s how to share iCloud storage with your family members.
When you share a photo via email, iMessage or most other apps, you also send the location of that image. No big deal, right? You’re only sending pictures to people you know anyway. But what about when you sell something on a site like Craigslist or eBay? If you don’t manually remove location data from your pictures, anyone can see where you took your photo, which is probably your home.
Right away, anyone can see where you live, and what you have at home. You still might not care, but if you do, here’s how to remove all that information before you send a photograph. (You’ll also learn about an interesting quirk in iMessage.)

Country music fans can take a motorcycle ride through the heart of rural America with singer Brantley Gilbert in the latest ad for Apple Music.
Apple released its new ad today that showcases Gilbert’s love for small towns and Harleys while also promoting the companies music streaming service. The minute long ad features songs from Gilbert, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Born to Be Wild. But for those that hate country, Brantley tosses some Kendrick Lamar into the mix too.

Apple’s freshly unveiled HomePod speaker may soon get some competition from its Silicon Valley neighbor Facebook. The social network giant is supposedly developing a smart speaker of its own and based on a report out of Asia, it could pack some features that HomePod can’t match.

After a month of solid use, here's my thoughts on iOS 11. Photo: Ste Smith/Cult of Mac
Ever since Apple released the first iOS 11 beta to developers, I’ve run each version on my primary iPhone 7 and my 9.7-inch iPad Pro. While iOS 11 doesn’t bring a radical redesign, it’s been great, with several extremely useful new features (especially for iPad).
To get the full rundown on what I like, what I don’t like, and my general thoughts on iOS 11 after a month’s use, watch the video below.

No matter how far ahead you plan, you’ll find yourself without power when you need it most. Much like there’s no good time for bad news, it’s always bad news when you can’t charge your phone. Or even worse, find your way around a darkened room.
Are you protecting your Mac yet? Photo: Ste Smith/Cult of Mac
Security researchers have discovered a mysterious strain of malware that allows hackers to take over the webcam, keyboard, and other resources on your Mac.
The malware is believed to be at least five years old, but it has gone unnoticed until now.

Just switch this setting to fix the iPhone No Service error. Photo: Charlie Sorrel/Cult of Mac
If you’ve ever traveled to a foreign country with your iPhone or iPad, you may have come across the dreaded No Service error. This happens when you get off the plane and switch on your iPhone. But instead of connecting to a cellular network, your iPhone just spins its wheels and refuses to connect.
Apple offers a support page to help out, and a zillion forum pages serve up advice, but none seem to cover this particular tip, which I discovered after hours of painful futzing with settings.
macOS High Sierra was one laid back macOS update. Photo: Apple
Apple seeded its fourth beta build of macOS High Sierra to developers today, along with new betas of watchOS 4 and tvOS 11.
The new builds come two weeks after Apple dropped the last builds on developers that brought a bunch of new bug fixes and under the hood changes. Apple didn’t add quite as many major changes as it did on iOS 11 beta 4, but there are some notable improvements.
iOS 11 beta 4 brings a host of bug fixes and performance improvements, plus a few key changes that make Apple’s mobile operating system even better. New beta builds are also available for macOS High Sierra, tvOS 11 and macOS High Sierra.

Today’s movies and TV shows are more popular than ever before. That makes screenwriting a job that’s never been more lucrative or impactful. And like photography, video, and music, there’s an industry standard software for screenwriters.
Apple is reportedly planning to manufacture its own OLED displays for future iPhones so that it can reduce its reliance on Samsung.
The South Korean company is said to be producing around 80 million panels this year alone for the big iPhone 8 refresh, but it could get its nose pushed out later on.
The Rock is the start of Apple's first Siri "movie." Photo: Apple
Apple has teamed up with Dwayne Johnson, better known as The Rock, to make its first Siri “movie.”
It’s called The Rock x Siri: Dominate the Day, and it’s pretty hilarious. Johnson plays an exaggerated version of himself who uses Siri to fulfill crazy dreams. But it’s certainly not a movie.
